Dominic Risden, formerly identified as a man, has been found guilty of raping a female friend just weeks after being released early from a four-year sentence for having sex with a 15-year-old girl he met online. The court heard that Risden had begun identifying as a woman and adopted the name ‘Lexi-Rose Crawford’ after serving half of the sentence. The victim, whose identity has not been revealed for legal reasons, reported that Risden attempted to molest her during a video game session at her home. Risden then removed the victim’s clothes and raped her with “her penis”.

Controversially, despite not legally changing their gender, Risden was referred to as “miss” throughout the four-day trial. The indictment charged Risden with using “her penis” to rape the victim.

Impact of Transgender Women in Female-Only Prisons

This case is just one example of the controversies surrounding the placement of transgender women in female-only prisons. The UK government has recently scrapped the policy of allowing prisoners to “self-identify” with the gender of their preference. This change came after fierce backlash over First Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s inability to answer whether Adam Graham (Isla Bryson) was, in fact, a woman, which ultimately led to her resignation.

The placement of transgender women in female-only prisons has raised concerns about the safety of female inmates. Critics argue that biological males pose a higher risk of violence against women, especially in confined spaces like prisons. They further claim that male-bodied individuals should not have access to female-only spaces and resources, including female-only prisons.
