US President Donald Trump has slammed The New York Times (NYT) for what he calls a “completely untrue” report alleging that billionaire Elon Musk would be briefed on classified Pentagon war plans regarding China.

The NYT claimed that Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and owner of Tesla and X, was set to attend a top-secret briefing on how the US would respond to a potential conflict with Beijing. Citing unnamed officials, the report suggested he would gain access to sensitive materials, including a detailed strategy presentation.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) echoed similar concerns, suggesting Musk’s businesses could gain an unfair advantage through his alleged access to classified military insights.

Trump swiftly dismissed the allegations on Truth Social, calling the story “ridiculous” and condemning the NYT for spreading lies. “China will not even be mentioned or discussed,” he declared.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also refuted the claims but confirmed Musk’s visit, clarifying that it was an informal discussion on “innovation, efficiencies & smarter production,” not a classified war briefing.

Musk, meanwhile, doubled down, labeling the NYT “pure propaganda” and calling for an investigation into Pentagon insiders leaking “maliciously false information.”
