The Growing Concern: Mexican Drug Cartels and America’s Southern Border

In recent years, concerns have been growing about the infiltration of Mexican drug cartels into the United States, particularly along the southern border. This issue, largely fueled by open-border policies and increased illegal migration, poses significant security and safety challenges for the nation. In this article, we will explore the alarming situation unfolding along the border, shedding light on the rise of Mexican drug cartels and their impact on American soil.

The Escalation of a Border Crisis: Since President Joe Biden's inauguration in 2021, the United States has witnessed an unprecedented influx of illegal aliens, with an estimated five million migrants entering the country. This surge in migration has resulted in overwhelmed federal Border Patrol agents, who struggle to manage the continuous flow of people. Consequently, Mexican drug cartels have seized the opportunity to establish a foothold within the nation, infiltrating unnoticed and expanding their influence.

No-Go Zones on American Soil: Fronton Island, located approximately 250 miles south of San Antonio, serves as a stark example of the Mexican drug cartels' growing control over American territory. The Gulf Cartel and Cartel del Noreste (CDN), both known for their extreme violence, dominate this area. Surprisingly, these cartels have not turned Fronton Island into a battleground but rather use it as a sanctuary whenever they need to evade Mexican military or American law enforcement.

A Drug Trafficking Corridor: Fronton Island has also become a crucial drug trafficking corridor for these cartels. The dense vegetation provides ideal cover for concealing their illicit goods while they make their way northward. After delivering their merchandise, they return with more cash and weapons to further bolster their resources. These cartels have demonstrated a ruthless disregard for human life, resorting to lethal force when necessary to protect their operations.

Violence Along the Border: Incidents of violence perpetrated by Mexican drug cartels along the border are not uncommon. In 2019, before President Biden took office, cartel shooters fired over 50 rounds from fully-automatic weapons across the Rio Grande at a U.S. Border Patrol boat. In August of the same year, trail cameras captured images of suspected cartel gunmen crossing into Fronton from Mexico, armed with rifles and dressed in body armor. Such incidents have raised serious concerns about the safety and security of the border region.

The Expanding Human Smuggling Business: The cartels have also recognized the potential for profit in the human smuggling business, taking advantage of the federal government's inability to provide comprehensive security along the border. Texas DPS Regional Director Victor Escalon has acknowledged the challenges faced by landowners who often encounter armed individuals crossing their properties, further highlighting the urgent need for effective border security measures.

Conclusion: The infiltration of Mexican drug cartels into the United States, fueled by lax border policies and a surge in illegal migration, presents a growing threat to the nation's security and safety. The situation on Fronton Island serves as a stark example of this alarming trend. To address these challenges, it is imperative for the United States to prioritize border security measures that protect its citizens and prevent the further expansion of Mexican drug cartels on American soil.
