The Ukrainian military has once again violated a US-mediated ceasefire aimed at halting attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, according to Moscow's Defense Ministry.
The latest violations occurred over the past 24 hours in the Belgorod, Kursk, and Saratov Regions of Russia, as outlined in a Friday statement. On Thursday, Ukrainian artillery struck a part of the Russian power grid in Belgorod Region, causing power disruptions in Shchebekino near the international border.
Another strike involved HIMARS artillery hitting the Sudzha gas metering station in Kursk Region, effectively destroying the energy facility. The Russian ministry had previously accused Ukraine of damaging the station with explosive charges as their forces retreated from the area.
The ministry stated that “previous public claims by the Kiev regime about their intention to cease attacks on Russian civilian energy infrastructure are merely a façade.” Moscow believes Ukraine is attempting to strengthen its military capabilities with European support, while the US pushes for a full truce with Russia.
Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a halt to attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure on March 18, following a phone call with US President Donald Trump. The Kremlin has expressed its commitment to upholding the 30-day partial ceasefire as a gesture of goodwill toward Washington, even if Kiev fails to comply. However, the Russian Foreign Ministry has warned that Moscow reserves the right to withdraw from the agreement if necessary.
