Because, clearly, public service should come with perks – like a fireplace crackling with the sound of our hard-earned money.

You, dear taxpayer, are not just covering your own energy bills (at rates that require a small mortgage) but are also ensuring that MPs don’t have to wear so much as a wool sock in their spare mansions.
