Gene Hackman, Oscar-Winning Actor, Dies at 95

Gene Hackman, the esteemed Oscar-winning actor, was found dead alongside his wife, Betsy Arakawa, at their Santa Fe, New Mexico, home on February 26, 2025. Authorities discovered their bodies during a welfare check, along with one of their three dogs. Initial investigations suggest Hackman, aged 95, and Arakawa, aged 65, had been deceased for approximately nine days before being found. Data from Hackman's pacemaker indicates his heart stopped on February 17.

Autopsies revealed no external trauma, and both tested negative for carbon monoxide poisoning. The circumstances surrounding their deaths are considered suspicious, with investigations ongoing.

Hackman's illustrious career spanned over four decades, earning him two Academy Awards for Best Actor in "The French Connection" (1971) and Best Supporting Actor in "Unforgiven" (1992). He was also known for roles in "Bonnie and Clyde" (1967), "The Conversation" (1974), and as Lex Luthor in the "Superman" series. He retired from acting in 2004.

Tributes have poured in from the film industry. At the 2025 Oscars, Morgan Freeman honored Hackman, calling him a "dear friend" and "a giant among actors."

Ben Stiller also expressed his admiration, stating Hackman was "one of my favorite actors" and "a giant."

Hackman's death marks the end of an era in American cinema, leaving behind a legacy of remarkable performances that have left an indelible mark on Hollywood.
