As of February 24, 2025, Pope Francis remains hospitalized at Rome's Gemelli Hospital, where he has been receiving treatment since February 14 for double pneumonia and chronic bronchitis. The Vatican reports that he had a restful night and continues to rest.
Despite his critical condition, the Pope remains alert and oriented. He continues to receive high-flow oxygen therapy through nasal cannulas, and recent blood transfusions have improved his hemoglobin levels. However, he is experiencing early-stage kidney insufficiency, which is currently under control.
In response to his hospitalization, supporters have gathered outside the hospital, holding vigils and offering prayers for his recovery.
Additionally, public figures such as actress Isabella Rossellini have expressed their well-wishes, with Rossellini sending a message of support during the 2025 SAG Awards.
The Vatican has announced that Cardinal Pietro Parolin will lead a mass in St. Peter's Square this evening to pray for the Pope and others in the hospital.
While Pope Francis has not experienced further respiratory crises since Saturday evening, his condition remains complex, and the prognosis is guarded. The Vatican continues to monitor his health closely and will provide updates as necessary.
